What is a good home brew kit for a beginner?
I like medium to dark beers and really like Fat Tire, Yeungleng, and 1554 among others. I want to brew my own beer as a hobby, and because it would save a little money and give me the ability to make a beer that is exactly what I want. What is the best kit for me to buy to make a quality beer with out going crazy on the price. Maybe big enough to make a 12-24 12oz bottles a week. Also suggestions on information books to learn how to brew properly would be great!
Honestly, as long as the kit has all the equipment, you really can’t go wrong, because kits are not designed to make specific beers, they will make any type of beer you want to make. Especially if you are starting, make sure it is a pre-packaged kit that includes all the equipment; more experienced home brewers can piece together their kits more. You can get a really nice quality beer brewing kit for about $60 that has everything included to get you started. I would check out a place that will be there to support you throughout your beer brewing adventure. There are several trustworthy sites, like Quality Wine and Ale Supply, that are not just websites that sell kits, but they also have individual equipment if you want to start piecing together your own home brewing station beyond the kit supplies; they have a recipe section that you can try out new things, as well as a blog filled with recipes, advice and topics of interest; they have books and other information available as well. I have used them, and have never had a problem. But it’s really up to you where you go, just make sure it’s a trustworthy place you invest with. Although the cost is low, you don’t want to cheap out on the equipment; going with a reputable supply store will ensure quality and help if anything were to happen with your kit.
Here are some more things to consider before buying your kit;
