Enjoy A Short Break At The Isle Of Wight Garlic Festival With Red Funnel
The famous Isle of Wight Garlic Festival is back this August, and you can experience it with Red Funnel. Whether you’re eager to get away for a relaxing weekend break with your partner or a family looking for things to do during the summer holidays, the festival, held on 14 and 15 August 2010 has something for everyone. Organisers are expecting more than 20,000 people to flock to the event, being held at The Garlic Farm, near Newchurch. Delicacies on offer include garlic sausages, garlic prawns, garlic fudge and even garlic beer!
Also on offer is some of the islands very best local produce ready to sample, including award winning meats, cheeses, fruits and vegetables. During the weekends proceedings, there will be some fantastic acts lined up to keep the audience entertained, including the legendary android performer TITAN, the robot who recently performed with Rihanna, as well as high wire, strongmen, stunt artists and magic shows.There is also plenty to keep the kids satisfied, with Punch and Judy shows, clowns and daredevil acts from the circus all performing as well as some great food to keep them going throughout the day, including the famous garlic ice cream. Entrance to the festival is £7.50 for adults, £6.50 for seniors and just £5 for children.
The Isle of Wight is also home to the Michelin starred Robert Thompson at The Hambrough restaurant. The youngest person to ever receive the coveted award, chef patron Thompson’s polished, confident dishes reflect his unfolding love affair with island ingredients, including his signature dish of sweet terrine of smoked eel, fois gras, roast pork and caramelised granny smiths. Overlooking the English Channel with a view as amazing as the food, the restaurant is sure to live long in the memory
Getting to the Isle of Wight is easy when you travel with Red Funnel. Vehicle ferries run around the clock from their Southampton docks, which are in easy reach of the M3 and M27. A return fare for a car and up to six people starts at just £34, and if you want to make a weekend of the event, Ninham Country Holiday Campsite, located nearby to the festival is offering two nights accommodation and return vehicle ferry transport for just £44 per person, based on two people sharing.
