Does anyone know any websites with experiments related to Beer?
Specifically “Beer Biochemistry”. I’ve searched articles in various magazines but those experiments require expensive equipment (HPLC, electrophoresis, etc.) and I need something inexpensive & didactic. I have common glassware (pipettes, burettes, measuring cylinders, etc.) and equipment such as scales, heater / stirrer, thermometers, refractometers, pHimeters, etc. …please HELP!
pHimeters, what is this?

What is your intended goal[s]?
What are you attempting to discover about beer?
Just simple concepts that give simple correlations can be done at home. You can measure a beers’ volume and pH as it is normally. You can then degas the beer and remeasure the volume and pH. You can then compare the beers CO2 volume and pH related to carbonic acid.
You can also capture the gas (degassed beer) in a balloon and measure the volume and calculate the CO2 volume of the beer.
Since you have lab equipment you can conduct titration trials to calculate the beers total acidity.

Residual Sugar Test Kit $28.99 The ACCUVIN Residual Sugar Kit tests only for fructose and glucose sugars, the sugars reduced in primary fermentation. Reducing sugars in wine consist of hexoses (mainly glucose and fructose) and pentoses (mainly arabinose and xylose). The pentoses are not fermentable by wine yeasts. Since pentoses alone can vary from 0.4 to 2.0 g/L, the best measure of primary fermentation is the determination of… |
