Transform Your Basement Into A Home Theater

How many times have you watched television shows about celebrities and their houses, showing off their personal home theaters? Cool houses like these may leave you frustrated and yearning, but there’s no reason. With a few affordable items, anyone can turn even a cold basement into a personal theater, just like the rich.

First thing you’re going to have to do is clear some room. Pack any loose items up in boxes and move them out. If you have nowhere to else to put these the boxes, then just stack them against the wall. You can always drape something over them if they remain an eyesore.

There is no right or wrong way to decorate a room, but there are common tricks for dressing up a theater. The first is to place drapes or sheets on as much of the wall-space as possible. This not only adds to the intimacy, but helps dampen any echo. When selecting furniture, go for comfort, not appearance, since the lights will always be low. Also, it’s easy to find a cheap used couch if you don’t care what it looks like.

Now to turn this room into a real theater. The most affordable option for replicating the experience are high definition flat screens. The HDTV Plasma Samsung devices can be as large as 50 inches which is more than enough. Although not mandatory, the addition of a stereo system for the audio would be preferred for a clearer sound.

Understandably, most houses don’t have heated basements. If you live in a cold area, you may want to consider buying a portable device to keep you warm during the winter months. The Delonghi space heater is a reasonably priced option. All you have to do is plug it in and you’ll be cozy within minutes.

So far, you’ve got a sweet set up, but to really add that final touch, place a food supply in the room with you. You don’t want to ruin the atmosphere you’ve created by constantly leaving for the kitchen. Install a mini-fridge in the corner and, if you want, get a small cooking device, for some warm snacks. The Kitchenaid oven is perfect for quick toasty meals.

It doesn’t always take a fat wallet to enjoy some of the finer things in life. You can do it for next to nothing. You’ll be able to enjoy that movie or game and sit back knowing that you didn’t break the bank in the process.
